A minor in Aerospace Engineering (AAE) provides opportunities for students to take technical engineering courses relevant to aviation and astronautics fields, and to gain the experiential knowledge that industry seeks, through lab and senior capstone design courses. Advances in aerospace technologies in the aviation field make air travel safer and less expensive while leaving a smaller carbon footprint. Within astronautics, the most advanced launch vehicles send communication and space, earth and solar-science satellites, and manned spacecraft, into orbit. The AAE minor is a unique, transcript-visible opportunity for engineering students to prepare for a career in the aviation and astronautics industry.
The Humanitarian Engineering minor provides multidisciplinary academic course work for students interested in the application of engineering, science, and technology-based solutions to global development challenges such as access to basic resources (e.g., clean water, clean energy), improved quality of life, and increased ability to earn a livelihood particularly in rural, resource-limited or low-to-middle income settings.
Materials Science is a unique blend of disciplines spanning engineering, science, and forestry at Oregon State University. The Materials Science minor is aimed at students with a wide range of materials-related interests including composites, ceramics, polymers, metallurgy, electronic materials and devices, solid-state chemistry, and solid-state physics.
