The recent rapid growth in the aerospace industry has led to a resurgence of interest in aerospace engineering among high school, community college, and university students across the country. Advances in aerospace technologies in the aviation field make air travel safer and less expensive while leaving a smaller carbon footprint. Within astronautics, the most advanced launch vehicles send communication and space-science satellites, and manned spacecraft, into orbit.

The Humanitarian Engineering minor provides multidisciplinary academic course work for students interested in the application of engineering, science, and technology-based solutions to global development challenges such as access to basic resources (e.g., clean water, clean energy), improved quality of life, and increased ability to earn a livelihood particularly in rural, resource-limited or low-to-middle income settings.

Materials Science is a unique blend of disciplines spanning engineering, science, and forestry at Oregon State University. The Materials Science minor is aimed at students with a wide range of materials-related interests including composites, ceramics, polymers, metallurgy, electronic materials and devices, solid-state chemistry, and solid-state physics.
