Bridging the arts and sciences for human betterment
Dr. Carol Ryff is professor of psychology and director of the Institute on Aging at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She will be visiting OSU as a guest of the provost and the deans of the College of Public Health and Human Sciences, the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Engineering. Carol’s visit will highlight the developing partnerships among the three colleges in efforts to build healthier communities through arts and science.

The Graduate Research Showcase is a daylong opportunity for you to advance your professional knowledge and skills, network with industry partners, and share your research with industry, faculty, peers, and the community. We are also pleased to welcome Dr. Inger Mewburn (The Thesis Whisperer) who will be giving the keynote at a luncheon exclusively for College of Engineering graduate students who present a poster and/or attend a workshop session. Please read the schedule and details regarding the Graduate Research Showcase. Space is limited to 200 students and registration will close January 11, so do not procrastinate in securing your spot!
FE Review Course Open for Registration
The Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) club at Oregon State is hosting the annual FE Review Course during Winter Term 2019 (exact dates on website, link below). This course is specifically designed to assist OSU engineering students who are studying for the FE Exam. The following subjects are covered: Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, Engineering Economics, Electrical Fundamentals, Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Materials Science, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Heat Transfer. Registration includes access to digital recordings of each lecture and notes on Canvas through Sept. 1st, 2019. The cost of the course is $100 for OSU students if you sign up online before December 16th. The cost will be $125 after December 16th. If you have any questions, please contact email@example.com.
For ASEE’s 125th Anniversary Celebration, we are asking students to create a video that shows where engineering education will be in 25 years! The scene: You are 25 years into your career as faculty, dean, chair, provost or president at your dream university. What does engineering education look like? What changes have been implemented? What does the student body look like? How are classes taught? Undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral students are encouraged to submit a 90-second video where you creatively explore these topics. The winning video will be shown at the 2019 ASEE Annual Conference in Tampa and the winning team (up to two people) will win a trip to the conference, along with $3000. Open Positions - Undergrad Learning Assistants (Thermal Fluid Sciences) Paid positions may be available in Winter/Spring/Fall 2019 to support thermal fluid sciences courses. Duties may include holding office hours, grading papers, copying materials for the course, helping with lab sections, tutoring, leading study sessions, attending weekly meetings, and other tasks as needed by the supervising instructor. The OSU OPEnS (Openly Published Environmental Sensing) Lab seeks seven undergraduate researchers to work in our hands-on technology-rich makerspace to produce next generation sensing technologies for environmental research. These hires will use 3D printers, microcontrollers, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to conduct technical research and development to produce and test their new instrumentation. The hires will also collaborate with professors and student researchers to help them design new solutions.
