ProSchool MECOP/CECOP Info Sessions

Students planning to apply to Pro-School and MECOP/CECOP for fall 2014 – as well as those needing more information about the programs! – should try to attend one of our upcoming workshops. First-year students also are welcome to attend.

Supplemental Instruction Study Tables

Spring term Supplemental Instruction (SI) study tables are now listed. If you are unfamiliar with SI or how students sign up for the program, please visit the website. All study tables are held in the North Study on the second floor of Beth Ray Center for Academic Support. Students will have the opportunity to sign up for study tables starting week 1 of the term. Other questions can be directed to program assistants at supplemental.instruction@oregonstate.edu.

“The Celebrated Developing Frog of Allegheny County”

Dr. William Messner will present “The Celebrated Developing Frog of Allegheny County and Other Sketches,” discussing successes with the embryos of Xenopus laevis for chemical patterning of cell identity and guided cell movements. Messner uses microfluidics to control the spatiotemporal chemical environment in order to investigate signaling and response in developing tissue. Messner is the John R. Beaver Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Tufts University.

Graduating Seniors – Fill Out Participation Surveys!

The April deadline for OSU graduation registration is fast approaching. Students who want to participate in the June 2014 ceremony should complete the survey. For the MIME ceremony on June 13, graduating seniors should also complete the MIME Commencement Survey, even if you do not plan to attend the MIME Commencement. Finally, visit the scheduler link to book an appointment for a senior picture. The photos are taken in Rogers 304.

Scholarship Workshop for First 15 Students

The University Scholars Program and the OSU Writing Center are conducting a Scholarship Workshop on Wednesday March 5, 2014. It is Open to all OSU students, but computer stations are limited to the first 15 students. Others may attend but would need to bring their own laptop or check one out from the library.


MIME Awards Banquet: Register for Dinner, Vote for Faculty

The MIME Awards Banquet to recognize outstanding faculty and exceptional seniors is Thurs., March 13 at 5:30 pm in the MU Ballroom. Please register using the online form for a free dinner with students and faculty members; spots are limited. Students also should vote for the MIME 2014 Teacher of the Year through the online form.

Volunteers Needed for OSU FIRST Robotics Competition District Event:

The OSU Robotics Club FIRST Robotics Competition District Competition is Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, 2014. Be sure to select "Oregon State University District" as the event to volunteer at after registering.


Scholarships, Fellowships and Research Internships

  • The National Research Council of the National Academies sponsors a number of awards for graduate, postdoctoral and senior researchers at participating federal laboratories and affiliated institutions. These awards include generous stipends ranging from $45,000 - $80,000 per year for recent Ph.D. recipients, and higher for additional experience. Graduate entry level stipends begin at $30,000. These awards provide the opportunity for recipients to do independent research in some of the best-equipped and staffed laboratories in the U.S. Research opportunities are open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and for some of the laboratories, foreign nationals.
    Detailed program information, including online applications, instructions on how to apply, and a list of participating laboratories, are available on the NRC Research Associateship Programs web site. Questions should be directed to the NRC at 202-334-2760 (phone) or rap@nas.edu.
  • The Hydro Research Foundation's 2014 Research Awards Program fund up to 20 research awards. These project funding can be as high as $32,800 annually for a one- or two-year research project. The funds are open to graduate students who will complete their Master’s degree or post-Masters research by May 2016. Deadline: March 5.
  • Texas A&M University will be hosting a National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program from June 2 - August 8, 2014, with sessions covering mechatronics, robotics, and automated system design. Each participant receives a stipend of $500/week for participation in the program. The deadline is March 7.

The OSU Mars Rover Team is looking for MIME students interested in designing and building a secondary rover for a secondary completion in June. This will require redesign and several weeks of manufacturing. We need someone willing and capable to lead a group of engineers and several people to help machine the parts. All students are welcome to join. If interested please contact Jackson Minear at: minearj@onid.oregonstate.edu


Portland-based Celestica is looking for a translator/technical consultant translate Japanese engineering drawings into English, and also modify the drawings and specs (via Adobe Acrobat or similar) to adjust to the needs of local suppliers There are more than 100 drawings in need of translation within the next few weeks.   • NEW The College of Engineering & College of Fine Arts, University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure, tenure-track, or tenured position at the Assistant/Associate level commencing Fall 2014. The posting is open until filled.
  • NEW Prairie View A&M University Department of Mechanical Engineering  is looking for candidates for two tenure-track faculty positions 1) Mechanical Design; and 2) Dynamic Systems and Control.
  • California State University, Sacramento has an opening for a tenure-track professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Apply by March 15 for full consideration.
  • The Russ College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University invites applications for a Visiting Stocker Professor in the Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) Department The position will last for a period of up to two years. Apply by March 17.
  • Lamar University has an opening for an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering beginning Fall 2014. For full consideration submit application materials by March 15.
  • South Dakota State University has an opening for two assistant professors of Mechanical Engineering. For full consideration submit application materials by March 21.
