EWB Board Elections   Vote Till Midnight Tonight!

EWB Board elections continue online today. Candidates for president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary have all presented their pitches, and now it's time to vote. Follow this link for their written statements, as well as the voting poll. Board position voting closes Mon., Feb. 24, at 11:59 pm. Voting is open to dues-paying members of EWB.


Volunteers Needed for OSU FIRST Robotics Competition District Event

The OSU Robotics Club is hosting a FIRST Robotics Competition District Competition on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, 2014. We need your help to make this competition a success! There will be over 28 teams competing, and we need robot inspectors, queuers, pit administration, field resetters, A/V techs, and more. MIME Awards Banquet: Register for Dinner, Vote for Faculty

The MIME Awards Banquet to recognize outstanding faculty and exceptional seniors is Thurs., March 13 at 5:30 pm in the MU Ballroom. Please register using the online form for a free dinner with students and faculty members; spots are limited. Students also should vote for the MIME 2014 Teacher of the Year through the online form.

Army Research Lab Visits HP Campus

Steve Taulbee, general engineer with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory will present, “Leveraging and Partnership Opportunities in the Army Research Laboratory, Weapons and Materials Research Directorate” as part of the Microproducts Breakthrough Institute seminar series. The lab is engaged in a multidisciplinary program to investigate disruptive technologies capable of providing breakthrough enhancements in capabilities for U.S. soldiers and the equipment they use.

Student Work Safety Survey

The Council of Graduate Employees along with the OSU administration, is collecting information about safety issues on campus. CGE is surveying its membership to generate a list of specific safety issues that may need to be addressed.  Please use the online form to report any safety issues of which you are aware. Including the specific building, lab, room number, and any other relevant information will help OSU in addressing these issues as quickly as possible. All responses are anonymous. Product Realization and Machining Lab Info Session

The SME chapter is hosting an informational discussion about the Product Realization and Machining Lab with Brian Jensen, lab manager. The session is designed to acquaint students with Jensen, and answer questions about the lab.

Scholarships, Fellowships and Research Internships

  • The Salem Chapter of National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) will award two $1,000 scholarships to engineering students. Last year, the group had only three applicants. Scholarship winners can be men or women.  
  • The Hydro Research Foundation's 2014 Research Awards Program fund up to 20 research awards. These project funding can be as high as $32,800 annually for a one- or two-year research project. The funds are open to graduate students who will complete their Master’s degree or post-Masters research by May 2016. Deadline: March 5.
  • Texas A&M University will be hosting a National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program from June 2 - August 8, 2014, with sessions covering mechatronics, robotics, and automated system design. Each participant receives a stipend of $500/week for participation in the program. The deadline is March 7.

Job and Internship Opportunities


The OSU Mars Rover Team is looking for MIME students interested in designing and building a secondary rover for a secondary completion in June. This will require redesign and several weeks of manufacturing. We need someone willing and capable to lead a group of engineers and several people to help machine the parts. All students are welcome to join there are many different aspects of the project to work on. If interested please  contact Jackson Minear at: minearj@onid.oregonstate.edu


Portland-based Celestica is looking for a translator/technical consultant translate Japanese engineering drawings into English, and also modify the drawings and specs (via Adobe Acrobat or similar) to adjust to the needs of local suppliers. There are more than 100 drawings in need of translation within the next few weeks. These drawings are for components and assemblies of a robotic wafer handling system. Please contact Jody J. Indiana University has at least 15 REU openings in the following ten research areas:  Bioinformatics, Computer Vision, Data Science, Data Visualization, Health Informatics, AI, Machine Learning, Programming Languages, Robotics and HCI, and Security. While the majority are NSF funded positions which requires US citizens, IU has a small amount of funding for international students.  Details of all research projects and the on-line application link can be found on the IU-SROC site.
