Course Description

This course is a survey of legal topics relevant to engineers, including basic of legal system, labor law, intellectual property, torts, and contracts. This is an introductory course, emphasizes on legal principles that can provide engineers with the ability to recognize legal issues that are likely to arise in the engineering profession and engineering management.
Note:  This is an introductory course; students are advised to seek legal representation if he/she encounters legal issues.

Learning Outcomes

The student, upon completion of this course, will be able to:

  1. Gain basic understanding of the legal system in the context of engineering practices and business environment.
  2. Gain substantive knowledge of intellectual property law, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secrets
  3. Gain basic understanding of contract and tort law
  4. Gain basic understanding of employment law and equal employment opportunity
