Welcome, prospective students!

Whether you're a high school student planning your college career, a community college student looking to transfer into our undergraduate program, or a prospective graduate student seeking an advanced degree, you'll find that OSU's School of Mechanical, Industrial, & Manufacturing Engineering has a lot to offer. Please visit our undergraduate students and graduate students links to see the breadth and depth of our programs.

You can learn more about Oregon State University admissions requirements and submit your application for admission online at the OSU Admissions web site.

Incoming Freshmen

Freshman engineering students begin their studies in the pre-engineering program, where they take approximately two years of courses including math, chemistry, physics, and introductory engineering courses. Upon completion of the required 96 credits, students may apply for admission to the professional engineering program in Mechanical Engineering.

For more information about the pre-engineering and professional program curricula, visit our undergraduate students page. We also encourage you to come visit the department, either through one of our formal visitation programs or by scheduling an individual visit. You can arrange a campus visit by calling 1-800-291-4192.

Transfer Students

Many students begin their studies at other schools. Every year, a number of students transfer into the OSU Department of Mechanical Engineering from community colleges and other technical programs, where they have completed most or all of their pre-engineering requirements. Transfer student information is available at the OSU and College of Engineering Web sites. For additional transfer information, contact the Engineering Undergraduate Program Office by calling 1-877-257-5182 or emailing them at info@engr.orst.edu.

Graduate Students

The Oregon State University School of Mechanical, Industrial, & Manufacturing Engineering offers exciting opportunities for graduate work in four specialty areas:Thermal Fluid Sciences, Design/Mechanics, Dynamics and Control, and Materials. Descriptions of our research programs and detailed information for prospective graduate students can be found on other pages of this Web site. Also be sure to check out our diverse and highly qualified faculty.

NOTE: For consideration for graduate teaching and research assistantships, please submit your full application by January 15th.
