- My MIME
When you join the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering, you become an integral part a community and workplace culture that are rare in academia. We are collaborators, innovators, and communicators, and we take great pride in our team-based approach to teaching, research, and tackling some of the planet's most pressing problems – together.
Our faculty and staff take great pride in reaching out across disciplines, shattering academic silos to produce collaborative research – and teaching – that are far more than the sum of their parts. Our unique culture of collaboration generates research that impacts the world where the need is greatest. And our teaching develops stand-out engineers who graduate knowing first-hand the power of teamwork, communication, and community. We are stronger together, and we take that very seriously here.
Our research results influence everything from robotics and medical devices to renewable energy, mass transit, rocket science, and more – in order to build a better world, sooner, for everyone. Our faculty and their students work on the cutting edge of innovation, funded by some of the most prestigious agencies and private entities in the world. We invite you to check out our community, which is at the heart of world-class research.
We expose our students to the real world in bold ways, so that they graduate prepared to hit the ground sprinting – helping solve complex, real-world problems quickly and efficiently. Our student teams consistently earn top honors at international engineering competitions. Our Global Formula Racing team collaborates across continents with students in Germany to design, test, and manufacture both internal combustion cars (in Corvallis) and electric vehicles (in Friedrichshafen). In 2015, the first year OSU fielded a chapter team of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the student-designed rocket beat 22 other teams from around the world with a near-perfect launch to win the Basic category and $1,000. For our students, the sky is the limit.
We are committed to ensuring that our students succeed – not only while they are here at Oregon State, but also when they are OSU Engineers working in the world. We tap OSU's Student Success Initiative, a collaborative, integrative strategy that both leverages existing resources and raises new resources to advance student success in multiple ways. We take great pride in our students, and in ensuring they succeed, both here and in life.
We are committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice, not only within the School of MIME, but throughout the College of Engineering and all across campus. We work hard to build a culture of inclusivity and understanding, where everyone belongs, feels connected, and thrives. Because we believe our differences ultimately make us stronger.
