Course Description

An intermediate heat transfer course seeking to lay a foundation for determining the heating and cooling characteristics with a variety of modern and classical processes. Included is design of multi-component heat transfer systems. Lecture, 110 minutes twice per week.

Learning Outcomes

The student, upon successful completion of this course, will be able to:

  1. Use the basic conservation equations to formulate heat transfer problems including multi-mode situations including conduction, convection and/or radiation.
  2. Solve multi-mode heat transfer problems based on identified and assessed assumptions and conditions.
  3. Combine heat transfer, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, as needed, to assess more complex systems and their components.
