Course emphasis is on experiments related to thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics. Proper experimental methods, data and uncertainty analysis related to thermal and fluids measurements are discussed.
- Basic principles of thermodynamics, fluids and heat transfer necessary to analyze data from experiment and design experiments
- Basic measurement concepts: measurement systems, sensors, transducers, calibration
- Transducers for measurement of strain, flow, pressure, velocity and temperature
- Uncertain analysis
The student, upon successful completion of this course, will be able to:
- Apply fundamentals thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer theory to the design and analysis of real world experiments and devices.
- Perform basic global and local measurement of such physical parameters as temperature, pressure velocity and flow rate using computerized data acquisition systems.
- Perform uncertainty analysis during the design, measurement, and analysis stages of an experiment.
- Design and perform an experiment, analyze and interpret data.
