Oct. 21 Senior Dinner – Register NOW to Meet Companies Recruiting Our Students

Whether you are looking for a job, an internship or just want to learn more about graduate school, the 16th Annual EECS-MIME Senior Dinner is for you. All Oregon State EECS and MIME seniors – including those on MECOP and other off-campus internships – are invited and encouraged to attend this free networking and recruiting event. Pre-registration is required by Oct. 15. In addition to the dinner, this is a BONUS FEATURE to this event: We encourage any and all students (undergrads of all years, graduate students) to upload your resume to be part of the resume portfolio book that is circulated to key industry partner companies. It is another great opportunity to put your resume in front of some excellent companies (for example, Intel, HP Garmin, and others) that recruit at our schools.
Senior Dinner  |  DATE: Wed., Oct. 21  |  TIME: 6 pm  |  PLACE: Memorial Union Ballroom

American Society for Engineering Management honors MIME Students from the Process Improvement Group

Three MIME students - Waleed Mirdad (PhD student), Joshua Hille (MSc candidate) and Jeremy Melamed (BSc candidate) - from the Process Improvement Group (PIGroup), advised by Dr. Chinweike Eseonu, earned the Merl Baker Award for third best student paper at the International Annual Convention of the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM). This collaboration “Pyramid of Mentorship,” the students developed a preliminary model to improve our understanding of change management at the individual (or micro-) level. This approach is unique because most of the current work focuses on macro- (or group) level strategies. This contribution to the engineering management literature if important because more than 70 percent of current lean implementation attempts fail to achieve their objectives due, in part, to poor micro-level conceptualization. The PIGroup students are finalizing a journal paper with Dr. Eseonu in the next step to solve this persistent problem in lean process improvement research and practice. They hope to develop a decision support system for splitting the cash award.

American Society for Engineering Management honors Chinweike Eseonu

The American Society for Engineering Management awarded Dr. Chinweike Eseonu a High Commendation for his paper “A Heat Transfer Model for Policy Diffusion.” The High Commendation recognizes the top four papers published in the Engineering Management Journal each calendar year and is determined by an independent panel of judges, led by Dr. Geert Letens of the Royal Military Academy, Belgium.

JetCat Catches High Praise from

A senior design team recently completed designing, building, and demonstrating an afterburner for a JetCat engine. JetCat’s are small gas turbine engines used for applications such as remote control aircraft. This project was funded by Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) with the goal of providing practical problems for engineering students. This project was very successful, as demonstrated by the video, and feedback from lead AFRL researcher and former AIAA Engineer of the Year, who said the project was, “far and away the highest performing among the 34 research teams we have funded through our Advanced Propulsion Outreach Program.”

AIAA Presents Guest Speaker from NASA Jet Propulsion Lab (with photos from Pluto)

The AIAA has invited former NASA Jet Propulsion Lab engineer Dr. Roger Diehl to discuss the wonderful achievements that humankind has made in space exploration. For example, on July 14, 2015, the New Horizons spacecraft completed a journey of almost 10 years and 3 billion miles to reach the outer solar system and encounter the dwarf planet Pluto.  Dr. Diehl, a retired mission and systems engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and currently a volunteer with the NASA Solar System Ambassador Program, will describe how the mission was achieved. The latest high resolution images of Pluto’s surface as well as those of Pluto’s largest moon Charon will be shown. Open to the public; all are welcome!
