AIAA Members Present Research; Osterberg Wins Grad Category

Five students and one faculty member attended the Region VI AIAA Student Paper Conference in Reno, Nevada, on March 28-29, 2015. Three of the students entered the competition and presented their research in the topics of Testing and Analysis of 2-Stroke UAV Engines (Sean Brown), Experimental Investigation of Dynamic Stall on Pliant Wings for Micro Air Vehicles (Brent Osterberg), and Air Ducting Heat Sink for Vaneaxial Fans in Helicopter Applications (Travis Gildner). Masters student Brent Osterberg won 1st place in the graduate category, winning a cash prize and a trip to AIAA SciTech 2016 where he will present his Micro Air Vehicle research. A special thanks to Dr. Chris Hagen, Dr. Roberto Albertani, and Dr. Nancy Squires for sponsoring the students on this conference trip.

The AIAA Design Build Fly team departed on April 8 for the competition in Tucson, AZ. The team has worked hard over the last six months preparing their plane for the DBF competition -- we wish them the best of luck!

Mark Your Calendar

This Week: Woodshop Safety Course

Students can register for a woodshop safety seminar held this Thursday, April 16, in Rogers 106 from 3 – 4:30 pm. Students must sign up in advance and bring their ME 250 nametag in order to gain entry to the seminar. To sign up, email darin.kempton@oregonstate.edu. With completion of the course, students gain access to the woodshop.

 

Seminar at NETL in Albany

Prof. John Lewandowski from Case Western Reserve University will conduct a seminar Friday at National Energy Technology Laboratory in Albany.  Due to Dept. of Energy restrictions, attendance is restricted to U.S. citizens and foreign nationals already cleared to be at the NETL-Albany site.

One-Stop Shopping for Graduation Needs – OSU Grad Fair

The OSU Grad Fair will take place April 20 and 21 from 10 am to 4 pm at the OSU Beaver Store. Graduates can choose, size and order everything at the Grad Fair, including regalia, announcements, and class rings. Students with questions about regalia, should contact the OSU Beaver Store. MBA Program Scholarship for Women

The Great Minds in STEM (GMiS) 2015-16 HENAAC Scholarship

Graduating high school seniors, undergraduate students and graduate students, who intend to or are currently pursuing a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) degree at an accredited college/university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico, are encouraged to apply for these merit-based Great Minds in STEM (GMiS) scholarships. In addition, students must have an overall minimum 3.0 GPA and must be of Hispanic descent or demonstrate leadership/service within the Hispanic community. Scholarship awards range from $500 - $10,000. DEADLINE: April 30, 2015

The John Hopkins Center for Talented Youths seeks enthusiastic teaching assistants for their summer program for gifted high school students. CTY offers intense, 3-week academic programs for highly talented students from across the country and around the world. As a teaching assistant you will have the opportunity to gain experience working with gifted students in a small class setting (approximately 12-16 students), as well as learn from a teacher in the field.
