Dr. R. Logen Logendran receives Award for Technical Innovation in Industrial Engineering
Dr. R. Logen Logendran has received the Award for Technical Innovation in Industrial Engineering from the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE). “This award recognizes those who have distinguished themselves through contributions to the welfare of mankind in the field of industrial engineering. The contributions are of the highest caliber and nationally or internationally recognized.” The award will be formally conferred at the IISE Honors & Awards Banquet, to be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 in Pittsburgh, PA.

Growth and balance in Corvallis, Oregon (from Marketplace)
Marketplace, broadcast nationally on many NPR stations, featured a story about how Corvallis is using "brainpower to create a startup hub, without damaging the city's culture," featuring OSU and Cassie the robot. Listen to the story.

MIME Distinguished Speaker Series: Louis L. Whitcomb
Dr. Whitcomb, Professor and Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, will discuss developments and sea trials of the Nereid Under-Ice (NUI) underwater robotic vehicle, which he developed with collaborators at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Corvallis Maker Fair
OSU will host the fourth annual CO• Maker Fair, an event which honors craftsmanship and technology by bringing together makers to share their knowledge, skills, and resources the community. Exhibitors include HP and the HP Makerspace, the OSU DAMLab, ChickTech, DaVinci Days, Viking Mars Mission Makers, Gearbox, Corvallis Geek Olympics, and Pi Dads.

Science Pub Portland: Designing Robots to Walk and Run
Join Jonathan Hurst, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Oregon State University. Designing passive dynamics, which are generated by the mechanical hardware, and software control algorithms together in tight integration can drastically improve the performance of a machine as measured by efficiency, agility, and robustness to disturbances.

Spring 2017 HWeekend - Impact Oregon!
HWeekend returns April 23-23! This free hardware development competition, sponsored by the College of Engineering, College of Business, and InnovationX, brings students of all levels and majors together with industry and faculty mentors to create something new. Students work together in teams to create a marketable project they can demonstrate and pitch to judges at the end of the weekend. The theme for this event is Impact Oregon! This year's Senior Design Showcase features nearly 200 student-built projects from across the disciplines: Biological & Ecological Engineering; Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering; Civil & Construction Engineering; Electrical Engineering & Computer Science; Mechanical, Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering; and Nuclear Science & Engineering. OSU engineering students may volunteer for this event. Volunteer for at least two hours and receive a free t-shirt. Register to volunteer here.

Accepting Applications for 2017/2018 COE Ambassadors
Ambassadors are undergraduates paid to serve as representatives for the College of Engineering (COE).  Examples of activities that ambassadors are responsible for include supporting the COE in recruitment events on and off campus, participating in professional conferences, attending alumni/industry events, providing tours to students, parents and VIPs who visit campus, and presenting at high schools throughout the state. To apply, you must complete this Qualtrics survey where you will attach a resume and cover letter indicating how your qualifications and experience have prepared you for this position.

LIFT (Leverage Inclusion For Thriving) Science invites you to participate in the April LIFT Science discussion. All OSU students are welcome. Please register through Beaver Careers. The 2017 LSAMP Summer Bridge Peer Mentor Application now live
Eligible students will have participated in a past LSAMP Summer Bridge program as a first year student and will be able to mentor a group of incoming freshman participating in this years’ bridge program.  Peer Mentors will be chosen on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, participation in LSAMP, OSU Cumulative GPA, Major, and ability to positively relate to new students and make an impact on their potential success through mentoring. Volunteers Needed – Wave Lab Open House
Are you interested in learning more about the Wave Lab? Volunteer for the Spring Family Weekend Open House on May 6 and you can become an expert wave lab tour guide. Tour guides will receive a wave lab t-shirt. There are two shifts 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. and 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. Tour guide trainings are May 2 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. and May 3 from 2 - 3 p.m. If interested, sign-up .

Volunteers Needed - Girl Scouts Bridge Building - April 15 from 8am-1pm. Johnson Hall
The local SWE (Society of Women Engineers) chapter is putting together an activity called Bridge Building to do with local Girl Scout Troops. We are looking for a handful of volunteers from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Please Contact Dana Algaier ( dana.algaier@hp.com ) if interested.

Summer Internship in Corvallis at HP
HP Inc. has a position open for a Data Pipeline Engineering Intern for an undergraduate student (preferably juniors graduating in Spring 2018).The intern would be working in Corvallis's PageWide Web Press section. The requisition number for the position is 3002506 and is listed here.

Engineering By Design in San Jose, CA is seeking an intern for Summer 2017 to assist with a number of duties including mechanical and electrical assembly and testing of machines, making videos of machines in operation, compiling and analyzing test data, and more. This is a good opportunity for someone who likes to be around machinery and is interested in the design/development process in a small engineering/consulting firm. Intel wants MIME students interested in a Manufacturing Technical Supervisor role at the  Hillsboro facility. A recruitment event will be held Thursday, April 13 at 6 p.m. in Rogers Hall, room 230. More information and registration.

The PROMISE program is a paid summer internship which provides experiential learning opportunities for Oregon State University undergraduate students, with particular emphasis on providing pathways for historically underrepresented students into professional careers. Internships are available to all OSU undergraduate students who are or will be enrolled for Spring term, who have completed at least 90 undergraduate credits, and who have a current cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
