WORK IN THE COE AS AN ACADEMIC COACH! The COE is looking for
students to provide one-on-one peer academic coaching to other students,
helping them to improve their academic success. The program promotes student
persistence among pre-engineering students and supports success in the COE. If
you have good interpersonal skills, want to help other students succeed, and
have 5–20 hours available each week during Winter/Spring terms, the COE wants
you as an academic coach! Requirements:
must be in good academic standing, must have at least 3 terms completed at OSU,
must be a COE student, must be available for some training during Fall Term. To Apply: indicate “Engineering

DONATE UNWANTED CELL PHONES TO BENEFIT
VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. October is domestic violence awareness month, and the OSU
Campus Recycling Office and Office of Sustainability have partnered with the
Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence (CARDV) to
conduct a cell phone collection drive on campus. Donated cell phones will be
reprogrammed to become 911 emergency phones for use by individuals and families
fleeing domestic or sexual violence. Collection
boxes are located in the Memorial Union, Dixon Recreation Center and Valley

NEED AN EXTRA BOOST OF ENERGY ON MONDAYS? “Move It Mondays" is
a weekly group walking program during the lunch hour sponsored by Beaver
Strides, OSU's pedometer-based walking wellness program. Beaver Strides and
Move It Mondays are open to students, faculty and staff. They meet at the east
entrance of Plageman Student Health Services under the red awning at noon and
walk for 45 minutes on various routes near campus. The walk will occur weekly,
rain or shine, so bring comfortable shoes and an umbrella or rain gear, if

McNair Scholars Program is
directed toward low income and first generation undergrad students, many from
underrepresented minority groups. Selection as a McNair Scholar is the result
of a highly competitive process, and signifies academic achievement and the
potential for future success in graduate study. The OSU Graduate School will
pay the graduate application fee for McNair Scholars intending to pursue a
master’s or doctoral degree. In addition, the Graduate School or your academic
program of interest may provide tuition remission to documented McNair Scholars
who gain admission to graduate study at OSU—up to 2 years for master’s students, and up to 4 years for doctoral students!

Product Innovation and Commercialization GRADUATE
SEMINAR: Winter–SPRING 2009. If you are involved in a research
project, thinking about a start-up, interested in commercializing an idea or
would like to pursue innovative ideas at an established company this is an
excellent opportunity to learn and connect with influencers in the
entrepreneurial community. The class will run on Thursdays, noon– 2 pm. It’s a
two-part class (one part each term) with 2 credits (Pass-Fail) of graduate
studies each term. The class is informative and fun and features a significant
guest speaker almost every week from the VC, legal, and entrepreneurial communities

2008–09 INTERNATIONAL
PROGRAMS FACULTY GRANTS AND AWARDS PROGRAM. The program aims to foster faculty
international initiatives that contribute to expanding and strengthening the
international dimensions of teaching, research and service at Oregon State
University. These grants are available for regular OSU faculty members
(tenured, tenure track, professional or fixed-term non–tenure track) with at
least a .5 FTE and a nine- to twelve-month appointment. Nine awards of up to
$2,500 are anticipated in the 2008-2009 program.
