Congratulations to MIME Professor Toni Doolen, 2009 SWE Fellow!

For her strong encouragement and mentorship of young women seeking to reach their full potential as engineers, the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) has named Dr. Toni Doolen a 2009 SWE Fellow. This honor was conferred on Oct. 16 at the Society’s annual conference.   “Dr. Toni Doolen has selflessly contributed her time, ideas and guidance to the Society and young women aspiring to reach full potential in their engineering careers,” said SWE president Nora Lin. “Throughout her career she has served as a SWE leader, advancing outreach and scholarship programs. Fundamentals of Engineering (Fe) Exam and Review Course: Important Registration Information

The FE exam is a comprehensive exam of engineering principles in addition to taking a portion of the exam on your specified discipline.  You MUST take the FE exam if you are interested in eventually becoming a Professional Engineer (PE).  If you are interested in taking the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam this spring (April 2010), please be aware that you must register ON OR BEFORE DECEMBER 1st, 2009.  Information can be found here.

A review will be held for the FE exam during Winter Term here at OSU.  Registration for the review will occur starting December 2009. Those who take the FE review course have a near 100% pass rate on the exam.  Find more info about the FE Review here.

Further information will be available in the coming weeks. Please be aware that registering for the review course DOES NOT register you for the FE exam, AND conversely, registering for the exam DOES NOT register you for the review course.  They are independent registrations.

If you have any questions, please email the OSU IIE FE Review Chairs Brent Hughes or James Ralstin.

Undergrad/School-wide…

GEAR UP TO CHUCK A PUMPKIN!  ASME will be holding a Pumpkin Chuckin’ Event on Friday, October 30th,from 2 to 5 pm (location TBD; stay tuned). Build a device and bring it to the event to be judged on design and ability to hit a target 50 yards away. It must be no larger than 6x6x6 feet in size. (If it is a throwing device and the arm extends beyond this that is fine.) The device *cannot* use gas-powered engines, compressed air, or any other explosion type propellant. Safety is the first concern of this event. If the device is deemed unsafe than it will not be allowed to throw a pumpkin, but will be judged by design alone. Contestants can bring up to five pumpkins and there is no limitations on pumpkin size.  First, second, and third-place prizes will be awarded.  The location of the event will be announced soon. Please contact ASME chair Matt Chiasson with any questions.
