AUGUST 24th IS OSU DAY AT THE OREGON STATE FAIR!

The Oregon State Fair runs Aug. 22–Sept. 1 in Salem, at 2330 17th St. NE. With more than 9,000 things to do, see and taste, this event is simply too big to miss! And this year, Sunday Aug. 24 is OSU Day, so be sure to wear your orange and black! Here’s a sampling of OSU-related activities happening on the 24th for you to check out:

·         Beaver Boulevard (main concourse). Featuring displays and activities from various OSU colleges and programs. The women’s volleyball team will sign autographs from noon to 2 pm, and the OSU Bookstore will be on site selling Beaver merchandise. Visit Benny on the Boulevard and get your photo taken with him, too!

·         OSU’s Solar Vehicle, “Rain Dancer.” Solar Vehicle Team members will also be on hand to share their experience of competing in the 2,400-mile race from Texas to Alberta, using solar power.

·         Lego Robotics Challenges. Featuring Sumo Bot, Fastest Bot, and Art Bot competitions, among others. In the 4-H Exhibit Building and open to youth ages 9+.

·         OSU SMILE Booth. Find out more about the SMILE (Science and Math Investigative Learning Experiences) Program—a partnership between OSU and 14 Oregon school districts—and build a musical instrument using simple materials.

·         Sustainable Energy Center. The Center’s OSU Day theme is “Alternative Transportation.” Don’t miss the petrol diesel / biodiesel test-and-comparison unit developed by students in last year’s MIME senior design course!

Admission at the gate is $10 (or $6 for adults age 65+, $5 for children ages 6–12, and FREE for ages 5 and younger). On Aug. 24th, special gate admission prices will be offered for OSU students, faculty/staff and alumni. (Students with a 2007–08 ID from any Oregon college or university get a dollar off the gate price every day.)  For more fair information, visit http://www.oregonstatefair.org
