CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2009!

Last Friday’s School of MIME Commencement Ceremony at the OSU LaSells Stewart Center celebrated the graduation of 82 MIME seniors, master’s, and PhD students. Thank you to all the faculty, staff, and student volunteers who helped to make this year’s commencement ceremony and reception the best ever! Belinda Batten, Professor and School Head, had the pleasure of welcoming the graduating students and their friends and family members who filled the auditorium. The ceremony featured two student speakers: Brenda Buckman (IE senior) and Samantha Godfrey (ME senior). Barry Rahimian, CH2M Hill Senior Director of Industrial & Advanced Technology, MIME Industry Affiliates Board member, and 1986 OSU ME graduate, gave the keynote address. Photos are viewable at http://mime.oregonstate.edu/gallery/Graduation09.

Attention 2009 graduates: Now that you’ve joined the MIME alumni ranks, don’t forget to join the “Oregon State University ME, IE, MfgE and Mat Sci Alums” group on LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=1842585) and stay connected with classmates and OSU.

KUDOS TO DRS. KIM, PORTER, & KRUZIC

Congratulations to MIME faculty members David Kim and David Porter, recent recipients of the OSU Impact Award for Outstanding Scholarship for their research on vehicle-distance taxation procedures. This award recognizes OSU faculty who have demonstrated outstanding scholarship in a specific project or activity resulting in substantial impact beyond the university setting.

And congratulations to MIME faculty member Jay Kruzic for winning the Promising Scholar Award and the year-long “Promising Scholar” title. This award recognizes the scholarship of OSU junior faculty who have achieved a high level of accomplishment in a relatively short period of time at OSU.

These three outstanding MIME faculty researchers will be recognized at the next University Day on September 24th.

OSU BEAVER RACING DOES IT AGAIN!

A big HOORAY for the Baja SAE team’s world championship victory in Wisconsin last weekend. The team was in fourth place going into endurance, but pulled ahead to win 1st place in endurance, and 1st place overall. This is the second time OSU’s Baja team won the national championship in four years! Click here for a photo of the winning vehicle.

And we would also like to wish the Formula team good luck as they head off to Fontana, CA, to compete in Formula SAE California this week, June 17–20. GO BEAVS!
