CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2008!
As we move into spring term’s final stretch, we want to
extend special congratulations to all members of the 2008 MIME graduating class
on your hard work and accomplishments, bid you good luck during your final finals week (at least for your
current degree :), and extend our best wishes as you move into your respective
futures.
We hope to see many of you at the MIME Commencement Ceremony
& Reception next Saturday (June 14th), 4 pm at the LaSells
Stewart Center. We know that some of you have not RSVP’d as of yet and are
probably thinking that it is too late to go to the ceremony. If you would like
to attend, please do come. We would love to celebrate you and
this momentous occasion. If you have any questions about the event, please drop

Workshop: “Summer Institute 2008: Developing a Living Syllabus.” This
is an intensive, five-day development workshop for a limited number of faculty
who want to convert their traditional syllabi to a living one. This is intended
to support instructors who teach large classes at OSU. For more info and an

Wed June 25: Town Hall Meeting #2 for Community
Sustainability Action Plan. 6:30–9 pm, Corvallis High School, 1400 NW
Buchanan Ave. (Registration and snacks start at 6 pm). Register at http://www.sustainablecorvallis.org/.
On March 31st, over 600 people attended the first of three town hall
meetings to kick start the creation of a community sustainability action plan.
Following that meeting, 12 work groups formed to develop measurable goals and strategies.
They will present their initial work to the public at this second town hall
meeting.

Oregon State University is seeking a Programs Coordinator. Responsibilities
include planning, coordinating, and implementing youth and adult science and

BRAVO BEAVER RACING! Out of the 95 teams competing at the
2008 BajaSAE competition last week in Peoria, Illinois, OSU’s Baja teams placed
2nd and 5th! Congratulations to both teams on your

HAVE AN IDEA TO MAKE OSU MORE SUSTAINABLE? Here is a chance to make
it happen! The Student Sustainability Initiative at Oregon State University
will award up to $5,000 dollars in grant funds for projects completed by June
2009. Projects should promote the SSI mission, the OSU student body, and
sustainability at OSU (renewable energy, efficiency, technology, agriculture,

GRC Call for White Papers in Modeling & Simulation of Nanoelectronic
Materials, Processes, and Devices. The Device Sciences area of the
Semiconductor Research Corporation Global Research Collaboration is soliciting
white papers in Modeling & Simulation of Nanoelectronic Materials,
Processes, and Devices. Two page white papers addressing needs in a new
research needs document are due Monday, June 16 at Noon. A limited number
of full proposals will be accepted based on the white paper submissions and a
subset of these proposals will be selected for anticipated three-year contracts
beginning January 1, 2009. Interested researchers should note the proposal and
review schedule, needs document, and instructions for web-based white paper

FALL 2008
GRADUATE COURSE - MTH 654: Numerical Methods for Inverse Problems. Instructor: Dr.
Nathan L. Gibson (gibsonn@math.oregonstate.edu).
This course is concerned with the numerical solution of inverse problems,
including numerical optimization of cost functionals. This course will provide
an introduction to optimization theory, a working understanding of several
numerical solution methods, and MATLAB sample solutions to examples of
applications. Additionally, a treatment of randomness and uncertainty in the
computational aspects of inverse problems will be presented. The content of the

LOCAL SUMMER OPENINGS FOR HOME ENERGY ADVISORS. CSG is currently seeking Energy Advisors to work for the Home Energy
Savings Program-Corvallis Energy Challenge sponsored by Energy Trust of Oregon.
This program is designed to encourage home owners to increase the energy
efficiency of their homes through retrofits such as increasing insulation or
installing high efficiency furnaces. This position is based in Corvallis and
