HAVE AN IDEA TO MAKE OSU MORE SUSTAINABLE? Here is a chance to make
it happen! The Student Sustainability Initiative at Oregon State University
will award up to $5,000 dollars in grant funds for projects completed by June
2009. Projects should promote the SSI mission, the OSU student body, and
sustainability at OSU (renewable energy, efficiency, technology, agriculture,

2009–10 FULBRIGHT US STUDENT COMPETITION. Fulbright grant applicants must be US citizens at

STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR
MIME COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY. We are looking for student assistance with the MIME
commencement ceremony, 4–5 pm on June 14th. Help direct guests,
distribute programs, and assist MIME staff in making the event run smoothly.

WANT TO EARN $10 FOR USING A COMPUTER AND WATCHING TV? If you are familiar with biathlon, ski, or
other winter sports; familiar with regular PC and Internet use; and comfortable
with being recorded for analysis purposes, your participation is solicited for
a short study (1.5 hours) that involves using the Commentator Information
System (the system used during the Olympic Games by live journalists to
retrieve data about records, athletes, weather, etc.) If you are interested,
email the student researcher Eunyoung Chung (chunge@onid.orst.edu) with the following
information: your name, phone number, email, sports preferences, background (if
any) in Computer Science, Journalism, and/or Biathlon, and top 3 preferred
times and dates for the experiment. Available times (through June 11th)
are MWF 11 am–1 pm, 1–3 pm, 3–5 pm, 5–7 pm and T/Th 10 am–noon, noon–2 pm, and
2–4 pm). The experiment will be conducted in the EUSES Lab at Kelley

OSU OVER FREE LUNCH. OSU is about to embark upon an institutional branding
campaign designed to increase the University's national visibility. The
marketing firm that will be helping us with this effort, Lipman Hearne, will be
on campus on June 18 and wants to speak with current students to get a sense of
your experiences here and of how best to portray OSU to prospective students.

KNOWLEDGE WORKERS NEEDED FOR A
TASKTRACER STUDY: EARN $40. The CS research group that has developed the TaskTracer
software application (http://eecs.oregonstate.edu/TaskTracer/)
is recruiting participants for a 3-week user study. The goal of the TaskTracer software
is to help people better organize their electronic documents. Study
participants should be knowledge workers (admin assistants, accountants, etc.)
who use Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Internet Explorer. Participants will be

NERHP IS
LOOKING FOR UNDERGRADS AND GRADS TO PARTICIPATE IN A SUMMER STUDY. Researchers from the
Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics (NERHP) at
Oregon State University are seeking six undergraduate and fifteen graduate
students enrolled during summer term, 2008 to participate in a funded
research study of information gathering and problem solving behaviors.
Student teams will be given several sets of technical questions, will
generate technical solutions, and will write reports describing their
solutions. Graduate students will receive tuition, health insurance, and
salary support ($1500/month), and undergraduate students will be
paid hourly ($10/hour for up to 270 hours). To be eligible, students
must: (1) Plan to be in Corvallis during the time period June 15,
2008–Sept 15, 2008. (2) Participate in a formal orientation in early June,

HUMAN POWERED VEHICLE TEAM LOOKING FOR NEW DESIGN TEAM MEMBERS. The
OSU COE Human Powered Vehicle team is ramping up for a great year of design,
testing, and racing in the 2008-2009 school year. If you are a going to be a
senior next year and are interested in being involved with our design team as your
senior project, or if you are just looking to get some hands on design

STUDENT COURSE TO JUMP-START YOUR THESIS OR DISSERTATION: August 3-8, 2008. WR 599: Writing
Workshop for Thesis and Dissertation Writers across the University. The purpose is for masters and doctoral students
to energize their thesis writing through intensive work on their own writing
project, through daily individual conferences with the professor, and through
group discussions of writing issues. Details:
· 3 credits
· 3 hour graduate writing workshop
· 1 week concentrated format (beginning Sunday evening,
August 3rd)
· Enrollment limited to 15 graduate students
· Open to all graduate students who are at the
writing stage (which means they have enough of their research done that they
are writing the thesis or dissertation. This is not a course for brand new
graduate students or those beginning research).
Note:
Taking this course requires that students clear the decks of all other courses,
employment, child care, and obligations from Sunday evening through Friday 3 pm
and focus only on their thesis for this time. Mon–Fri the course meets 8:30–4
pm for individual writing and conferencing and then again 7–9 pm for group
