GOOD LUCK BAJA SAE TEAM!

 

After many untold hours of hard work and preparation, OSU’s Beaver Racing team will head north this weekend to participate in the 2009 Baja SAE Oregon competition. The competition’s racing events take place on Saturday and Sunday (May 9–10) at Washougal Motocross Park (40205 NE Borin Rd., Washougal, WA). Saturday’s events include on the Hill Climb, Maneuverability, Acceleration, and Rock Crawl. On Sunday, the endurance event runs from 10 am to 2 pm. If you’ve got the time, come on up to Washougal and join other Beaver Racing supporters in cheering our team on to victory! For more info, click here.

 

 

KUDOS TO DR. LOGENDRAN!

 

Congratulations to MIME faculty member Dr. R. Logen Logendran for his recent election as Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) Fellow. This honor will be formally bestowed upon Dr. Logendran on Saturday, May 31st, at the IIE Annual Conference in Miami, Florida. For the press release, click here.

Congratulations to MIME faculty member Dr. Robert Paasch for his recent SAE Faculty Advisor Award which was presented to him during the 2008 awards ceremony at the SAE World Congress in Detroit. SYMPOSIUM FOR PROSPECTIVE WOMEN GRAD STUDENTS. The 2009 NW Symposium for Graduate Education will be held in Kearney Hall on Saturday, May 16, 8:30 am–3 pm. This free event, designed for undergraduate women, will help answer your questions about grad school and help you decide what academic and career decisions are right for you. Meet with women scientists and engineers from academia and industry, and with current graduate students. Registration is required. For more info and to register, click here.

 

SIAM POSTER CONTEST FOR GRADS AND UNDERGRADS. Regardless of your major, the OSU Math Department is accepting math-related posters that demonstrate an application of a theorem, show different ways to prove a result, or present models of real-life problems. The poster contest is Tuesday, May 19, at 4 pm in LaSells Stewart Center. To participate, send an e-mail by Tuesday, May 12 to siam@math.oregonstate.edu with your name, school, and poster title, and specify if you are an undergrad or grad student. Tip: Student Multimedia Services in the Valley Library prints student posters free of charge.

 

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN A CAREER IN STUDENT AFFAIRS? The College Student Services Administration (CSSA) Student Association is hosting an event for undergraduate students to learn about the field of student affairs on Monday, May 11, at 5 pm in Education Hall 228. This event is targeted towards students who may be interested in learning about careers in higher education (i.e. program ambassadors, RAs, tutors, tour guides, front desk assistants, etc). SUICIDE RISK REDUCTION TRAINING FOR OSU FACULTY AND STAFF. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for college students and as such presents a significant public health concern for our campus community. As an OSU faculty or staff member your relationship with students represents a unique opportunity to be an agent of change for a student in distress. Attend a 90-minute gatekeeper training on suicide risk reduction, facilitated by OSU Counseling & Psychological Services. Training is on Thursday, May 14, 9–10:30 am. To register, click here.
