A THOUSAND CRANES FOR
KARENA
Last week, almost 40 CoE students, faculty, and staff
assembled to take part in the “1000 Crane Project” for Karena Dokken, an ME
senior who was recently diagnosed with cancer and is now undergoing
chemotherapy. Collectively, the group hand-folded more than a
thousand origami cranes and assembled them into two hanging masterpieces
which were presented to Karena last Thursday. To see a picture of how they
turned out, click here.
(The larger of the two has exactly 1,000 paper cranes)!
For this and other similar gestures of solidarity and
support, Karena sends her thanks and appreciation to the MIME and larger CoE
community. In her words, “I have been sincerely touched at how well everyone
has handled my diagnosis, and how supportive everyone has been. I don't know if
mentally I would be where I am if it weren't for everything CoE has done for
me. I'm very privileged to know such great people and love being a part of
COE.”
If you would like to show your continued support of Karena
and others fighting cancer, join “Team Karena” at the American Cancer Society
Relay for Life on May 15th in the MU Quad. For more
information and to join the team, click
here. Or, if you would like to make an ACS donation in support of Karena, click
here.
