WME TO HOST NASA SPEAKER ON APRIL 23rd

Interested in finding out what it’s like to work at NASA? Dr. Irem Tumer, OSU Mechanical Engineering professor and former NASA employee, will speak to engineering students on this very topic at the upcoming Women & Minorities in Engineering meeting on Wednesday, April 23rd, 5 pm, KEC 1005.  All CoE students are invited and encouraged to attend. Dinner will be provided.

If you plan to join us, please RSVP by 5 pm Friday, April 18, to Karena Dokken at dokkenk@onid.orst.edu, so we know how much food to order!

ASME OFFICER ELECTIONS THIS THURSDAY

ASME will be hosting its first meeting of the term this Thursday (April 10), at 6:30 pm in Rogers 230. There will be pizza, as always, and a recap of the Tacoma SPDC, but the primary function of this meeting will be to select new officers for the 2008–09 academic year. The four positions that are definitely on the election agenda include President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Other potential positions include Webmaster, Social Chair, and Service Chair. Additional positions may be considered as well, if you can provide a convincing argument (and a nominee).

If you're willing to commit a little bit of time to ASME, in return for great leadership experience and a resume-builder, please consider running for one of these positions. To get your name in the hat, just show up at Thursday night's meeting!

E-JOURNAL DOWNLOADING POLICIES FROM OSU VALLEY LIBRARY: REMINDER AND CAUTION. OSU Libraries subscribes to over 30,000 electronic journals and databases to support you at Oregon State University. These include the IEEE Electronic Library, the ACM Digital Library, and the journals of the ASCE and ASME. You are welcome to use these resources for your classes and research. However, these resources come with certain limitations. In general, users are authorized to display, print, download or copy a reasonable portion of licensed electronic resources. For journals, this is typically 1–2 articles. For books, this is typically one chapter. If you need an entire journal issue (e.g., a special "theme" issue), please contact the library and we will see if we can arrange for special permission to use the entire issue. Publishers do not allow systematic or substantial printing, copying, or downloading of electronic resources (such as entire journal issues or books) via any method including robots, scripts, agents, or other automatic downloading tools. Systematic downloading of articles is in violation of the license agreements signed by Oregon State University and may result in the loss of access to the journal for all of OSU. Recently, we have had several instances where library users have violated these terms by systematically downloading hundreds of articles. This systematic downloading resulted in the loss of access to the journals for a period ranging from one hour to one day. Repeat offenses could result in the permanent loss of access to the journal for all of OSU due to these license violations. DON’T DO IT!! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Laurel Kristick (Laurel.Kristick@oregonstate.edu, 737-7276) or Margaret Mellinger (Margaret.Mellinger@oregonstate.edu, 737-9642).
