ATTENTION MIME PRO-SCHOOL STUDENTS…YOU’RE INVITED!
To our fellow MIME Pro-School Students,
You are invited to the 2nd Annual MIME Winter Awards Banquet
hosted by Alpha Pi Mu and Pi Tau Sigma. The banquet will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 6–8 pm in the MU
Ballroom. There will be a free catered dinner and an awards
ceremony for the most outstanding seniors and professors for ME and IME. This
is a great chance to mingle with your peers and faculty and to say bon voyage
to graduating seniors and those who will be on MECOP spring term.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE 2009 ENGINEERING EXPO
This year the Engineering Expo is happening on Friday, May 15th.
We need both students and staff volunteers to help out on May 14th
and May 15th with setting-up and tearing-down, giving guided tours
and managing info booths. Volunteers will receive a free T-shirt. If you are

INCREASED AWARENESS OF YOUR CONNECTION TO THE COMMUNITY. ALS 199:
“Understanding Community through Service & Coalition Building” is designed to lead you through exercises, large and small group work,
and personal reflection to help you begin to identify your connection to
community, how oppression functions in society, social structures that keep
oppressive conditions in place and how each of us participates in the
oppression and liberation of others. This is a 1-day and 1-credit
course, and it includes an off-site community service project with a free

LIBRARY RESEARCH TRAVEL
GRANTS. OSU Libraries is
accepting applications for the 2009–10 Library Research Travel Grants for the
spring funding period. These grants promote faculty scholarship and
instructional expertise by supporting faculty travel to libraries and

BECOME AN ELI HOST FAMILY FOR A WEEKEND. OSU’s English Language Institute (ELI) is
in great need of host families to host one or two Japanese university students
from Bunkyo University for a two-night home stay. There are three home stay
weekends to choose from (April 17–19, April 24–26 and May 1–3) and you may
choose to host one, two or three weekends. The ELI will pay a $20/night stipend
per student. These students are here for a term-long language/culture program.
The home stay provides an opportunity for them to practice speaking English and

SPRING
NUMERICAL ANALYSIS COURSE FOR GRADS. NE 699: “Multiphysics Methods in Computational Science and
Engineering” will cover advanced topics encountered by practitioners and
researchers when engaging in the simulation of coupled physical phenomena
within the area of science and engineering. Prior course work (or
experience) with numerical solution of partial differential equations will be
required. Students must have some fundamental background in numerical analysis,
with a working knowledge of numerical discretization methods and simple
numerical solution of linear systems. This 1-credit course consists of eight

Mechanical Engineer Summer Intern (SCEP). The Portland District Corps of
Engineers is recruiting for a Mechanical Engineering student for summer work in
a construction management in the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP).
Applicants must be at sophomore or junior status by summer of 2009; senior
status students with one or two terms left are also eligible. The nature of the
work involves office and field duties related to construction management and
oversight of construction and dredging projects located in Oregon and Southwest
Washington. Construction offices are located in Eugene, Troutdale, and
Portland, OR and Kalama, WA, but assigned construction projects may be located
elsewhere. Applicants for this position should have an interest in a long term
career in construction management with the Corps of Engineers. At the end of
the summer assignment, students will be considered for tuition assistance and
