THE OSU FOOD DRIVE DURING THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY
This Monday, February 2nd, is the
kick off for the annual
OSU Food Drive, which benefits non-profit agencies served by the Linn-Benton
Food Share. Last year OSU raised
more than 400,000 pounds of food! There are several food collection locations
on campus during the month of February, including the two MIME offices (Rogers 204 and Dearborn 102). For a 2009 OSU Food Drive calendar of events and
list of acceptable food items, click here.
The following are
MIME-hosted food drive events for February 2009:
·
FREE JAMBA JUICE! (While supplies last)
Students who bring 5 or more food
items (and faculty & staff who bring 10 or more food items) to Dearborn 102
or Rogers 204 will receive a coupon for a free Jamba Juice.
·
POPCORN SALE!
Small bags of fresh, hot popcorn will
be available for students, faculty, and staff to buy for $0.50 in the Dearborn
102 office. All proceeds go to the food drive.

FREE FOOD AT SHOGUN BOWL!
Students,
faculty, and staff are invited to come to Dearborn 102 and purchase a raffle
ticket for a chance to win a $20 gift certificate to Shogun Bowl (on Monroe,
next to Dominos Pizza). Tickets are $0.50 each and all proceeds go to the
food drive.
Special announcement: If you purchase a Jamba Juice at the Monroe Ave. location during the
month of February, don’t forget to mention the OSU Food Drive, and 20% of your

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE FEBRUARY 18th
EECS-MIME INDUSTRY RECEPTION!
The Fourth Annual EECS & MIME Industry
Reception is happening on Wednesday, February 18 (the evening
before the Engineering Career Fair), 5:30–7:45 pm in the Kelley
Engineering Center. This event is for all MIME students—freshmen
through PhD. It features an hors d’oeuvres reception
in the KEC Atrium followed by two break-out sessions where you’ll meet with
selected companies in smaller groups.
The Industry Reception is a free event designed to help you
meet and network with a variety of industry representatives in a low-key
setting. Some organizations are hiring for internships and full-time positions,
others just want you to get better acquainted with their company. Even if
you’re not looking for work right now, it’s very important to get out there and
start forming relationships with the people who might one day help find you an
internship or job. For more event info and a list of participating companies, click
here.
Online registration for
the Industry Reception opens this Thursday, February 5. A reminder e-mail will be sent out
on Thursday, with a link to the registration form. For the best selection of
company break-out sessions be sure to sign up early!
Also, ALL MIME STUDENTS (whether attending the reception or
not) are invited to upload a copy of your resume for inclusion in a resume book
for our INSPiRE member companies (Garmin, GE, Intel,
and Tektronix). To
upload your resume, click
here. Of course, you’ll want to bring a handful of resumes to the Industry
Reception as well!

ACCEPTING GRANT
APPLICATIONS FOR THE FEMET CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT GRANT. Proposals are being solicited from Professors of ferrous metallurgy
or materials science for funding of a curriculum development assistant to
enhance or update industry curriculum in ferrous metallurgy programs. In the
proposal, indicate how you would approach the task, including budget and
schedule requirements. The maximum allowable time for a curriculum development
grant is five years beginning in Fall 2008. The number of awards granted
depends on fund availability; the maximum grant per award will be $5,000 per
year for five years for a total of $25,000. The program objective is to
utilize undergraduate students to assist in the editing and updating of
textbooks and/or other course materials for use in ferrous metallurgy
education. The Professors selected will have discretion in establishing the
student duties as long as the steel industry’s role or visibility in the
Professor’s course curriculum and/or other programs is enhanced. Individual
student assistants should be entering their next to last undergraduate year for
a maximum of two years and would be selected by the professor (or however the
school dictates). For more info, click
