About this e-bulletin

Dear students, faculty, staff, and friends of the School of MIME:

We hope you’re having an excellent summer break, and best wishes for an enjoyable Independence Day holiday. We’re in the second week of the summer START program and pleased to be welcoming another outstanding cohort of incoming engineering students to OSU. Otherwise, news from campus is pretty sparse at this point (but how about that amazing baseball team of ours?!!!!).

The main purpose of today’s e-bulletin is to remind those of you who are currently seeking jobs and internships that the MIME job board is alive and well at http://ie.oregonstate.edu/MIMEjobboard.  Postings current as of 7/02 are listed below in this bulletin, but be sure to visit the site itself on a regular basis, as new opportunities are being submitted all the time.  This school resource is available to you at any time and from anywhere!

Also, here’s a recent message from HP’s OSU campus manager regarding employment opportunities at HP:

Dear Students: HP has several jobs and internships still open!  I am encouraging all procrastinating Beavers to head to http://www.hp.com/go/jobs and look for a job or internship.  Interns would be students who are returning to school full-time, and Graduate jobs are for those who have graduated during this past school year. Search for job titles with these (or other) key words: Systems, Mechanical, Test, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, ASIC. NOTE:  If you do apply on-line for an HP job, please let me know (so I can advocate on your behalf) by sending your resume and the job ID(s) to ken.saul@hp.com. Thank you! --Ken Saul, HP Senior Engineer and OSU Campus Manager

MISCELLANEOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS                                  [back to top]

Grad Students/Faculty/Staff

IE 564 – DESIGN AND SCHEDULING OF CELLULAR MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS will be taught this fall as a strictly-graduate course on T, TH: 2:00-3:20 pm. As it is transfer of research experiences, about 80-85% of the material comes from previous NSF-funded research. While the research itself involved quite a bit of (mathematical) modeling, this class emphasizes only the operational issues, the solution algorithms that we developed, and their applicability to solve large-industrial problems. We will also go through the application of one of the algorithmic techniques to an actual problem from the Parts Manufacturing Plant at Freightliner Corporation in Portland. The only prerequisite is good exposure to computers; no programming experience needed. There is no text book. The syllabus for the Fall 2005 offering of this course is at http://me.oregonstate.edu/news/bulletins/IE564syllabusFall05.doc. Current graduate students are invited and encouraged to enroll for Fall 2007. For more information about the course, contact the instructor, Dr. Logen Logendran, at Logen.Logendran@oregonstate.edu.
