What is the MIME Industry Affiliates Board?

The OSU Mechanical, Industrial, & Manufacturing Industry Affiliates Board (MIME IAB) comprises a group of dedicated industry representatives—many of them Oregon State alums—who serve in an advisory role in school-related planning and decision making. We seek the board's input on ME and IME program design, and we look to the board for assistance in strengthening our partnerships with industry.

It's a Two-Way Relationship

KEY CONTRIBUTIONS from MIME IAB members and their organizations include the following:

  • Input and advice on current industry needs, concerns, expectations, and job opportunities for MIME graduates
  • External review and guidance for proposed changes in MIME program curricula, as required by ABET
  • MIME curriculum enrichment, for example through the IAB Professional Development Series, mentoring, internships, and sponsorship of capstone design projects and graduate research
  • Strategies and support for increased women and minority representation in the School of MIME.
  • Financial support of the MIME programs through both monetary contributions and in-kind donations
  • Faculty teaching and research support
  • Participation in academic and social school functions, for example research presentations, guest lectures, student design competitions, the annual school awards picnic, and MIME commencement
  • Support of MIME involvement in global industry partnerships
  • Nominations of additional IAB members

BENEFITS of board membership include:

  • Information and access to our best students, for example through student club presentations, plant tours, and company internships (either via MECOP or your company’s own program)
  • Priority notification of school recruiting events, engineering career fairs, etc.
  • Opportunities to attend school-, college-, and university-wide functions
  • Inexpensive research support for your company’s endeavors through capstone project and graduate student sponsorships
  • Opportunities to connect with MIME faculty, for example through teaching and research collaborations
  • Company recognition in print and online school publications and on the MIME website
  • Networking opportunities with other board members

What is the Time Commitment for MIME IAB Membership?

The MIME IAB holds one full-day, formal business meeting each May. In addition, we typically hold 1–2 half-day meetings throughout the year, generally in the Portland area, for special topics and presentations. And as the preceding list suggests, we invite and welcome board members' involvement and participation in many other aspects of our program.

How Can You Get Involved?

If you have vision, commitment, and a desire to partner with Oregon State Mechanical, Industrial, & Manufacturing Engineering – and to join our drive toward top national ranking for the OSU College of Engineering – consider serving on the OSU MIME Industry Affiliates Board.

We welcome your interest and would be happy to answer any questions you might have about board participation. Please contact Tracy Ann Robinson, MIME Corporate Relations, at tracy.ann.robinson@oregonstate.edu or 541-737-4646.
