MIME Senior Design Project: Information for Students
Senior projects are conducted by teams of 3 students. All projects have
significant design content, and most involve prototype construction. A list of projects for students to consider
will be provided at the start of ME 418/IE497, the first term of the senior design course sequence.
Protype construction and design project reports must be completed by the end of the second term of the senior design sequence (ME 419/IE 498), when design teams give a formal oral
presentation to their advisors, industry mentors, and peers. Design teams are also expected to participate in the spring Engineering Expo, where projects are judged by the School of MIME's Industry Affiliates Board members.
Note that the MIME senior design sequence also functions as the MIME Writing Intensive experience, one of the university's baccaulaureate core requirements. As such, senior design provides a site for MIME students to sharpen their disciplinary and professional communications skills prior to entering the engineering workforce or moving on to graduate studies.
MIME senior design students complete the following:
-
ME 418/IE 497(Fall term, 4 credits) - Project and design team selection and initial project work, leading to a project proposal.
- ME 419/IE 498 (Winter term, 4 credits) - Project completion, including prototyping, formal design report, and preparation of project display for the college-wide Engineering Expo (an annual spring term event).
