MEng Degree Requirements
The purpose of the Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Mechanical Engineering is to provide students the opportunity to pursue advanced-level study in the field of mechanical engineering without the requirement for a research thesis or project. The degree is concerned with the practical application of specialized, graduate-level engineering knowledge. The degree is a coursework-only degree. No thesis or project report is required. Admission requirements are the same as those for the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) degree. The degree requirements are also the same as those for the MSME degree except that project/thesis and seminar credits will be replaced by an equivalent number of coursework credits. (Blanket numbered courses are excluded with the exception of ME 505). the MEngME degree program is subject to the following restrictions:
- Students receiving Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) or Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) support are generally ineligible for the MEngME degree.
- Students who accept a GRA or GTA appointment sign a contract with the School of MIME stating they will not switch from the MSME to the MEngME program without extenuating circumstances and approval of the School Head.
- MEngME students may switch to the MSME program at any time with the approval of the ME Graduate Program Committee (GPC).
- MSME students who have not held a Graduate Research Assistant or Graduate Teaching Assistant appointment may switch to the MEngME program at any time with the approval of the ME GPC.
