Course Description

Introduction to Computer-Aided Mechanical Design (CAMD) tools (hardware/software) and their applications to mechanical systems design. Design projects involving CAD tools constitute a major portion of the course.

Topics

  • Product data management
  • Manufacturing process modeling and CNC Mill Operation
  • Virtual reality for engineering simulation

Learning Outcomes

The student, upon completion of this course, will be able to:

  • Navigate a complex bill of materials and propagate an engineering change through the bill of materials, manufacturing plan, tooling plan, and schedule.
  • Create a manufacturing model from an imported solid model, then create NC code from the manufacturing model and use that code to create parts.
  • Create virtual prototypes and simulate the motion and operation of those prototypes.
