MECHANICAL COMPONENT DESIGN
Course Description
Failure analysis and design of machine components.
Topics
- Sress review
- Principal stress
- Static failure theory
- Stactic shaft design
- Fatigue failure (fully revered and fluctuating loads)
- Dynamic shaft design
- Gears
- Springs
- Bolted joints
- Welding joints
Learning Outcomes
The student, upon completion of this course, will be able to:
- Select and apply an appropriate failure theory for a machine component.
- Apply static and dynamic (fatigue) failure theory to a machine component.
- Select bearings, shafts, springs and gears for a given load situation.
- Analyze bolted and welded joints for failure.
- Apply the above concepts to a real product in a reverse-engineering scenario.
