Course Description

Continuation of the study of kinematics and kinetics of particles and rigid bodies, with applications to mechanical systems of current interest to engineers.

Topics

  • Rotation transformations
  • Three-dimensional kinematics of a rigid body
  • Three-dimensional kinetics of a rigid body
  • Single degree-of-freedom vibration response

Learning Outcomes

The student, upon completion of this course, will be able to:

  • Derive the position, velocity, angular velocity, acceleration, and angular acceleration vectors associated with rigid body motion.
  • Formulate and solve generic planar and 3D kinematics problems for mechanical systems.
  • Generate dynamic equations of motion for general motion of rigid bodies.
  • Formulate and solve dynamic problems for general mechanical systems.
