Course Description

Engineering as a profession, historical development, ethics, curricula and engineering careers. Introduction to problem analysis and solution, data collection, accuracy and variability.

Topics

  • Engineering design
  • The engineering disciplines
  • Managing engineering projects
  • Engineering Models (Linear Regression)

Learning Outcomes

The student, upon completion of this course, will be able to:

  • Name and describe different engineering professions.
  • Describe the types of activities engineers are involved in.
  • Develop an educational plan for your chosen engineering discipline.
  • Use standard software to perform engineering calculations, to prepare technical documents, to retrieve technical information, and to complete technical communications.
  • Conduct unit conversions and dimensional analyses to solve engineering-based problems.
  • Utilize the design and problem solving process to generate solutions to open ended engineering problems.
  • Describe the role of ethics in engineering design and problem solving.
